Lilium candidum is a classic, historic, and highly valued lily, well known in Lithuania as the St. Joseph’s lily. It has been grown for centuries in homesteads and monastery gardens, symbolizing purity, light, and tradition. It is one of the oldest cultivated lily species in Europe.
The flowers are large, snow-white, trumpet-shaped, and emit a strong, rich, and very pleasant fragrance, especially in the evenings. Several elegant, classic blooms appear on one sturdy stem.
The St. Joseph’s lily prefers sunny or partially sunny locations and well-drained soil, and does not like frequent transplanting. Under suitable conditions, it is a long-lived and reliable lily that blooms abundantly every year.
Bulbs planted in spring usually do not flower in the same year but establish well and bloom the following season.
Planted at a depth of 5 cm.
